The Essential Details of Backgammon Strategies – Part 1
March 13th, 2022 by Princess

The objective of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and bear them off the board faster than your opponent who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a game of Backgammon requires both strategy and good luck. Just how far you can shift your chips is left to the numbers from rolling the dice, and the way you move your chips are determined by your overall playing tactics. Players use a number of tactics in the different parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The goal of the Running Game tactic is to bring all your checkers into your inside board and pull them off as fast as you could. This tactic focuses on the speed of moving your checkers with no time spent to hit or stop your opponent’s checkers. The best scenario to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to shift your own chips a lot faster than your opposition does: when 1) you have a fewer checkers on the game board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your opponent’s pieces; or 3) your opposing player does not use the hitting or blocking technique.

The Blocking Game Plan

The primary goal of the blocking plan, by its name, is to block your competitor’s pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. Once you have established the blockage for your competitor’s movement with a couple of pieces, you can move your other checkers quickly off the board. The player will need to also have an apparent strategy when to withdraw and shift the checkers that you used for blocking. The game becomes interesting when the opponent utilizes the same blocking tactic.
